Luling Watermelon Thump June 23-26

If you’re looking for summer family fun for the upcoming weekend, look no further. The Luling Watermelon Thump is one of Texas’ best summer festivals.

In 1954, Hermon Allen, a school principal, proposed the idea of a celebration to honor the growers and promote the Luling watermelon market. A contest was held to name the event and honor was won by a student, Mr. Carol Ferguson. From that time, the Thump has been held the last full weekend in June.


This fun-filled weekend festival has something for everyone in the family: a parade, car show, live music, carnival, watermelon judging, seed spitting contests, and much more.

Some of the featured performers this year include Texas Unlimited Band, Turnpike Troubadours, Kyle Park, Cody Canada & the Departed, Mark McKinney, Casey Donahue, Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88′s, and more.
