Taste Buds

Friday, August 19, 2011

Taste Buds, a gourmet food and wine shop, is a must visit during a trip to Wimberley. The shop offers over 100 free samples every day of everything from candy to Texas-made salsa. The shop has its own Taste Buds brand which features savory honey butters, hot salsas, and flavorful jellies. Owner Maggie Nylund says she’s working to expand the popular wine shop. Texas Ski Ranch

Friday, August 19, 2011

Looking for a fun way to beat the heat? Check out the Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels. This venue has something for everyone, but the main attraction is of course the wakeboarding (no boat required). So whether you are a first-time beginner or a seasoned pro, get ready to hit the water. This is Callie McCool and her name says it all. It’s true the girls can hang with the boys, upside-down, too. After hitting the water, enjoy a meal at Wahoo’s Fish Taco. Located on the second floor of the main building, you can grab a bite to eat and never miss being a part of the action. Texas Ski Ranch...

Caldwell Kolache Festival

Thursday, August 18, 2011

Come be Czech for a day at the 27th Annual Kolache Festival, Saturday, September 10, in Caldwell. Kolaches, the original Czech wedding pastry, are a favorite national dessert throughout Czechoslovakia. The art of baking Kolaches came with the early immigrants to Burleson County. The Kolache Festival is a celebration of the revitalization of Czech heritage. A county that was basically a Czech settlement realized their precious identity was slipping away. New generations did not know the language, the music or the art of their ancestors. Not only does the festival grasp at the past,...

Dear John, Please Bring My Saddle Back Home . . . To the Red Carpet Lounge

Office Black and White

“DEAR JOHN, PLEASE BRING MY SADDLE BACK HOME … TO THE RED CARPET LOUNGE” By Bill Winsor As a child in South Texas during the drought stricken 1950s, I participated in what seemed then to be rather mundane Saturday morning rituals.  While still clear in my mind today, these events seem a part of a [...]
